LVT installation tips: What to do before your installers arrive

There are some very simple steps you can take to help contain the dust and manage the mess. For plank installations that require cutting, sawing, and sanding, this is even more of an issue. Sealing off rooms with plastic sheets makes a huge difference in terms of keeping dust in its place. Cover doorways, heating ducts, and any other opening to prevent dust from scattering and flying around, going from room to room and creating a total mess.

Remove doors

Normally, the installers that put in LVT in Hawaii remove doors themselves before beginning work. However, to make sure your precious doors are kept in perfect condition, consider doing this yourself. It’s quite simple: remove the doors in the room, taking them off their hinges, then stacking them in another room. To prevent scratching, make sure to place a blanket in-between each one. Keep the hinge screws together by keeping them in a plastic bag.

Remove baseboards

Often, installers remove these before beginning work, adding new ones afterward. However, if you’re looking to save a bit of money, you can remove baseboards yourself. Since they’re normally thin and delicate, you’ll need to be careful not to damage them.

Remove trim on doors

The door trim is often trickier to remove than baseboards, but certainly manageable. For the most part, installers don’t remove the trim, opting to cut off the bottom of the moldings because it’s easier and faster. If you take the time to remove the trim though, you typically get a much nicer look.
